Users should upgrade their iPhone to have the best mobile network experience
Even current 5G iPhone users will see an experience boost from switching to a new 5G iPhone — up to 48% faster 5G speeds. iPhone 14 Plus has been more popular than the iPhone Mini in 80% of global markets analyzed. Markets vary in their preference for Pro and large screen iPhones.
More spectrum leads to faster speeds and better video streaming in Asia Pacific
Opensignal data shows that APAC users observe twice or even thrice as fast 4G download speeds and around 50% faster 5G download speeds when there are large amounts of spectrum bandwidth connected compared with low amounts. Video streaming services also benefit from increased spectrum bandwidth — however, the difference is more marked on 4G than 5G.
Arrival of eSIM is altering how consumers interact with operators
The switch from a physical SIM card to electronic, threatens to alter how consumers switch operators and will cause operators to adopt new tactics to retain and acquire users. Opensignal’s new analysis shows there is a large increase in the proportion of users switching their operator among those who use an eSIM across seven analyzed markets – Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, the U.K. and in the U.S.

Analyzing Taiwan’s pre-merger mobile experience
There have been two mergers of major mobile operators approved in Taiwan, FarEasTone’s acquisition of Asia Pacific Telecom (GT) and Taiwan Mobile’s acquisition of Taiwan Star (T Star). In this new analysis we examine the pre-merger regional results for each of the four operators; using key mobile experience metrics to get a picture of how the separate companies measured up to one another — this allows us to see the potential for positive change that the to-be-merged networks have.
