In this first benchmarking piece on 5G experience in Latin America, Opensignal looks at the experience of mobile users across seven markets that have already deployed commercial 5G services — and quantifies the uplift in experience compared to 4G. Brazil and Guatemala are regional leaders in terms of speed and experiential metrics — however, our 5G users in Puerto Rico connect to 5G services for the highest proportion of the time.

Users in Brazil’s state capitals enjoy 5G Download Speed exceeding 250Mbps
In this new analysis, Opensignal has compared the 5G experience of our smartphone users in Brazil’s 27 capitals — federal capital Brasília and 26 state capitals. While our users across different capitals enjoy average 5G download speeds of over 250Mbps, there are substantial differences between the cities, up to around 150Mbps. We also see large differences in 5G Upload Speed and 5G Games Experience across these 27 capitals.
Poor connectivity damages the mobile app business
With poor mobile connectivity, users spend 20% less time in each app session while with poor Wi-Fi it’s an even greater 38% less time. After seven days, app retention rates are 49% lower for users that have seen consistently poor connectivity.
