Benchmarking Malaysia’s 4G mobile network experience before the JENDELA initiative
Recently, the Government of Malaysia announced a multi-billion dollar national digital infrastructure plan, Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA), to improve the country’s digital infrastructure and connectivity.
Analyzing Malaysia’s mobile data consumption, and its effects on 4G Download Speed
We observed that our Malaysian smartphone users' average mobile data consumption increased drastically over a few weeks across all networks — concurrently with the MCO's introduction — and this was associated with significant drops in our users' average 4G Download Speed Experience. While our users' data consumption on most networks in the third quarter of 2020 has remained above pre-MCO levels, their average download speeds are slowly returning to normal and even improving beyond those seen before the MCO in some cases.

In this report we examined the mobile network experience on five Malaysian national operators’ networks — Celcom, Maxis, DiGi, U Mobile and Unifi — to see how they fared. We further delved deeper into 12 states and two Federal Territories of Malaysia, comparing the results of these five operators. We also introduced two new metrics in this report for the first time in Malaysia — Games Experience and 4G Coverage Experience.
How Malaysians’ roaming experience in Singapore is affected by their choice of operator
We have analyzed how three measures of the mobile user experience vary between international roamers from Malaysia and domestic users in Singapore.
Southeast Asia: Connecting the dots between economic activity and mobile experience
We found a strong correlation between mobile Download Speed Experience and the GDP per capita of countries across southeast and south Asia. Our approach revealed a completely different landscape compared with looking at Download Speed Experience, Games Experience or other measures of mobile network experience in isolation.
