In the third 5G Global Mobile Network Experience Awards report, Opensignal once again compares operators from around the world to recognize those on which our users had the best 5G experience.
Global 5G benchmark: South Korea’s retreat on mmWave threatens its 5G leadership
South Korea’s leadership position in 5G experience is at risk as other markets deploy mmWave 5G ahead of South Korea. While South Koreans enjoy the fastest overall 5G download and upload speeds in the world, and spend the second highest time with a 5G connection — called 5G Availability — other markets are enjoying a further greater experience boost from mmWave 5G.
More spectrum leads to faster speeds and better video streaming in Asia Pacific
Opensignal data shows that APAC users observe twice or even thrice as fast 4G download speeds and around 50% faster 5G download speeds when there are large amounts of spectrum bandwidth connected compared with low amounts. Video streaming services also benefit from increased spectrum bandwidth — however, the difference is more marked on 4G than 5G.

In this Thailand Mobile Network Experience report, AIS is again the most awarded operator, with nine outright and two joint wins. DTAC increases its award count by snatching Video Experience away from TrueMove H and climbing on the winners’ podium for 5G Video Experience. TrueMove H turns two joint wins for 5G extent awards into two outright wins this time around, due to breaking out of statistical ties with AIS for these awards.
