To understand what the new normal looks like for mobile experience, Opensignal is updating our previous analysis of the impact of the pandemic and changed user behavior on the mobile experience with new data.
Quantifying the Impact of 5G and COVID-19 on Mobile Data Consumption
Opensignal has analyzed data consumption in 20 leading 5G markets and discovered the extent to which 5G users are consuming more data than their 4G peers. We have also analyzed overall data consumption in 65 markets.

In Opensignal’s latest analysis, we see that despite rising mobile data consumption, the download speeds experienced by users have been maintained. By contrast, Opensignal measured the Indian users’ mobile network experience last year and found that as mobile data traffic increased, mobile speeds dropped, indicating a more resilient experience in 2021 than in 2020.
The State of Group Video Calling Experience – Asia Pacific
Opensignal looked at 21 markets in our first Group Video Calling Experience analysis in the APAC region. Our users experienced the most seamless video conferencing on mobile devices in Japan and Singapore.
Benchmarking the Global 5G Experience – April 2021
Cities have a significantly better 5G experience than the national 5G results. For example, users in the city of Jeonju in South Korea have a 5G Download Speed of 415.6 Mbps which is 15% faster than South Korea's overall result.
