South Africa’s 5G challenge is spectrum usage, not performance
South Africa was an early African 5G mover, with launches in 2019 and 2020. Yet in Q1 2026, users spent just 3.7% of their connected time on 5G. Swisscom users had the lowest no signal time and the fastest download speeds in Swiss ski resorts
Ahead of the ski season, Opensignal has analyzed the mobile network experience in the 100 biggest ski resorts in Switzerland. We found that Swisscom users had the fastest overall speeds and 5G Download Speed in the ski resorts and they spent significantly less time with no signal than our Salt and Sunrise users. Also, users in resorts in the Graubünden canton enjoyed faster overall and 5G speeds than those in the Valais canton, although 5G Availability scores showed no statistically significant difference between these cantons.
Malaysian users see clear increases in speed and experience in 5G over 4G
Opensignal has analyzed the 5G experience in Malaysia and compared it to the 4G experience. Our results show that 5G boosts Video Experience by 66.7% over 4G, users’ average download speeds are 16.8 times faster with 5G, and there are boosts to Games Experience and upload speeds too.

Switzerland, November 2022, Mobile Network Experience
Swisscom dominates the awards table as, out of a possible 15 awards, it takes home 10 outright and three shared wins. Other Swiss operators’ award hauls are more modest, as both Salt and Sunrise both collected one outright and two joint wins each.
Poland, November 2022, Mobile Network Experience
In Opensignal's latest Poland Mobile Network Experience report, we saw a two-horse race between Orange and T-Mobile, as both operators won 11 awards each out of 15 available. However, Plus had the most outright wins in Poland under its belt, as it keeps a firm grip on 5G Video Experience and 5G Download Speed awards.
